LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring John McConnell upon the occasion of his
designation as the 2012 Father of the Year by the MERRICK LIFE

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
outstanding fathers who show great strength and selflessness, as well as
spend countless hours offering their love, support and guidance to the
children in their lives, acting as role models and inspiring them to
develop to their fullest potential; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
McConnell upon the occasion of his designation as the 2012 Father of the
Year by the MERRICK LIFE; and
WHEREAS, John McConnell grew up in North Bellmore, played baseball for
and graduated from Mepham; and
WHEREAS, A hardworking, quiet and humble man, John McConnell has
worked in Manhattan for almost 30 years, 13-hour days door-to-door; and
WHEREAS, At times, John McConnell has worked two jobs so that his
family could have and do extra things that they would otherwise be
unable to afford; and
WHEREAS, Currently, John McConnell is employed by Wells Fargo; at a
time when he should be thinking about retirement and enjoying himself,
he keeps looking to do more for others; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 37 years, Robin,
and their two children, Janelle and Jason, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, John McConnell has always been there for his wife, his chil-
dren, and for all of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, He has always wanted to make sure everyone was happy and has
made both simple and large gestures throughout his life to ensure their
happiness; and
WHEREAS, John McConnell is always willing to lend a hand no matter
who, what, where, when or why; and
WHEREAS, John McConnell recently gave up all his free time to help his
daughter and her husband, Greg, do things around their new home when
they decided to put their own roots down in Merrick; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, every winter for the past 29 years, if there was 6
inches or 6 feet of snow, John McConnell would be out on his block in
Merrick, New York, snowblowing and shoveling the entire block; and
WHEREAS, In addition to imparting his spirit of benevolence onto his
children, due to John McConnell's strong work ethic, his children
Janelle and Jason don't take things for granted and have always worked
extremely hard in their lives for things that they have wanted; and
WHEREAS, When John McConnell does find some free time, he continues to
play ball, pitching for Leo's Thunder in a softball league with his
son-in-law; it is something he enjoys along with his dogs, a Jack
Russell terrier named Lojack and a Boston terrier named Sasha Mary; and
WHEREAS, Father's Day is a time to commend and celebrate fathers; it
is one day out of the year to praise and pay tribute to all fathers;
John McConnell's record as a father merits the recognition and praise
from this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John McConnell upon the occasion of his designation as the 2012
Father of the Year by the MERRICK LIFE; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John McConnell.
