LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. David Szczerbacki upon the occa-
sion of his induction as the ninth President of the College of Saint
Rose

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors serve to enhance the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Dr. David Szczerbacki upon the occasion of his induction as the ninth
President of the College of Saint Rose, to be celebrated on Saturday,
October 13, 2012, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Since August of 2004, Dr. David Szczerbacki has served as
provost and vice president for academic affairs at the College of Saint
Rose; he will succeed Dr. R. Mark Sullivan, who will step down from the
leadership post after serving for 16 years; and
WHEREAS, As provost and vice president, Dr. David Szczerbacki has been
the College's chief academic officer, responsible for the quality of all
academic programs offered by the College's School of Arts and Humani-
ties, Lally School of Education, School of Mathematics and Sciences and
Huether School of Business; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Szczerbacki chaired the past two five-year strate-
gic planning processes and has initiated new faculty programs supporting
research and curricular innovation, a new program review and development
process, a review of the liberal arts core curriculum, and expanded
programming in international studies, first-year experiences, e-learning
and undergraduate research; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. David Szczerbacki has worked closely with
President Sullivan in leading multi-year faculty salary plans, securing
an endowed chair in ethics and moral values, and in securing grants and
philanthropic gifts to support facilities and programming; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Szczerbacki came to the College of Saint Rose from
Alfred University in Alfred, New York, where he served as provost and
vice president of academic and statutory affairs; and
WHEREAS, At Alfred University, Dr. David Szczerbacki was responsible
for overseeing the quality and operation of all academic programs,
managing the budget for all academic programs and services, and estab-
lishing new academic programs; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Dr. David Szczerbacki served as chief executive
officer at the State University of New York College of Ceramics, which
is located at Alfred; he also held positions as dean of Alfred's School
of Business and acting dean of the College of Engineering and Profes-
sional Studies; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Szczerbacki earned his doctoral degree in policy
studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and he holds a
master's degree in urban systems and a bachelor's degree in political
science from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his academic career as an educator and admin-
istrator, Dr. David Szczerbacki's professional work has focused on the
fields of urban and regional planning, economic development, leadership
training, environmental management, strategic management and organiza-
tion development; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Szczerbacki evaluates other colleges and universi-
ties as a member of the Periodic Review Report Committee of the Middle

States Commission on Higher Education, the federally designated accred-
iting agency; and
WHEREAS, Locally, Dr. David Szczerbacki serves on the board of Bishop
Maginn High School in Albany; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Susan and their
daughter Katherine, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. David Szczerbacki upon the occasion of his induction as the
ninth President of the College of Saint Rose; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. David Szczerbacki.
