LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring outgoing Fire Chief James Robinson after
many years of distinguished service to the New Hyde Park Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is proud to honor outgoing
Fire Chief James Robinson after 23 years of distinguished service to the
New Hyde Park Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Inspired at a young age by watching his father, who was also
a firefighter, rescue and save the life of a woman from a burning build-
ing, James Robinson instantly felt a calling to his career as a volun-
teer firefighter; and
WHEREAS, James Robinson joined the New Hyde Park Fire Department 23
years ago, and after completing the four-year cycle of Deputy Chief, he
became Chief of the Department; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, James Robinson is credited with securing
many grants including those for capital improvements to improve sink-
holes in the parking lot of the main firehouse, a new rescue truck, and
meters that will enable New Hyde Park firefighters to measure the levels
of several different gases in houses when they respond to emergencies;
and
WHEREAS, Upon completion of his term as Chief, this dedicated fire-
fighter plans to remain a volunteer with the New Hyde Park Fire Depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, James Robinson was recently elected as a battalion delegate
on the Nassau County Fire Commission and is a member of the Firefighters
Association for the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, James Robinson was employed by the United States Postal
Service for 23 years, followed by his current position which he has held
for the past two years as Management and Program Analyst for the Federal
Aviations Agency Flight Standards Division of the Eastern Region; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; James
Robinson is such a firefighter; throughout 23 years of devoted service,
this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty,
those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor outgoing Fire Chief James Robinson after many years of distin-
guished service to the New Hyde Park Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James Robinson.
