LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Stephen J. Sweeny, Ph.D. upon the occa-
sion of his retirement after many years of distinguished service as
President of the College of New Rochelle

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individuals' efforts, the excellence and
the success of the College of New Rochelle is due in large part to the
efforts of its retiring President, Dr. Stephen J. Sweeny; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Stephen J. Sweeny, Ph.D. upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service as President of the College of New
Rochelle; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at a Gala Dinner
in his honor, to be held at the Glen Island Harbor Club on Thursday,
April 7, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A highly experienced educator and administrator, Dr. Stephen
J. Sweeny has been a faculty member and administrator at the College of
New Rochelle since 1976; he became President of the College on July 1,
1997; and
WHEREAS, As the 12th President of the College of New Rochelle, Dr.
Stephen J. Sweeny has enhanced the academic program of the College that
currently serves more than 5,000 students in four schools at the main
campus in New Rochelle and at five campuses in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen J. Sweeny has also promoted the College of New
Rochelle's mission of education for service through his memberships on
the boards of other educational and social service organizations and
through his leadership of faculty, staff and students who are deeply
engaged in the community life of the New York City metropolitan area;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Stephen J. Sweeny has continually demon-
strated an impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an
unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of the educational programs and
opportunities offered at the College of New Rochelle for the benefit of
its faculty and students, as well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, In completing many years of service as an educator, Dr.
Stephen J. Sweeny leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he
leaves behind a legacy to the College of New Rochelle and to future
generations of its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend and honor Dr. Stephen J. Sweeny upon the occasion of his retire-
ment after many years of distinguished service as President of the
College of New Rochelle; and for his significant contributions to educa-
tion in New York State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Stephen J. Sweeny, President, The College of New
Rochelle.
