LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Upper Hudson Maple Producers Associ-
ation upon the occasion of hosting their annual tree-tapping event on
Friday, March 16, 2012

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life within the State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Upper Hudson Maple Producers Association upon the occasion of hosting
their annual tree-tapping event on Friday, March 16, 2012; and
WHEREAS, This special festivity is the beginning of the 2012 New York
State maple season; the host farm will be Mapleland Farms located in
Salem, New York; and
WHEREAS, After the tree-tapping, there will be a brief tour of Maple-
land Farms where patrons will see sugar making, and then enjoy a deli-
cious pancake and sausage breakfast; and
WHEREAS, Tapping sugar maple trees is a tradition in the Upper Hudson
River Valley since the 18th Century; the sugaring season lasts usually
from late February to early April; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the 2012 Maple Open House weekends are scheduled
for March 17-18, and March 24-25, 2012; now in its 17th year, the
participants can witness a variety of equipment and methods used to make
maple syrup, sample a plethora of maple products, and enjoy wagon rides
to the woods, tapping demonstrations, and historical displays at sugar-
houses throughout New York State; and
WHEREAS, The Upper Hudson Maple Producers Association is the regional
trade group representing nearly all of the maple syrup producers in the
Upper Hudson Valley; in 2011, New York State produced 525,000 gallons of
maple syrup; and
WHEREAS, The Upper Hudson Maple Producers Association's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Upper Hudson Maple Producers Association upon the occasion of
hosting their annual tree-tapping event on Friday, March 16, 2012; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Upper Hudson Maple Producers Association.
