LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Rochester Knighthawks upon the
occasion of capturing the 2012 National Lacrosse League Championship

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary individuals and teams within the Empire State
who made strong contributions to their communities and who inspired
others through their model citizenry and noble deeds; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Rochester
Knighthawks upon the occasion of the franchise's second lacrosse Champi-
onship, achieved on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Blue Cross Arena in
Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Rochester Knighthawks defeated the Edmonton Rush in the
Champion's Cup Final by scoring seven unanswered goals during a span in
the third and fourth quarters--stealing momentum and ultimately sealing
the 9-6 victory; and
WHEREAS, Rochester Forward Cory Jamieson finished the contest with a
game-high eight points (four goals and four assists) and was named the
Championship Game Most Valuable Player; and
WHEREAS, Despite finishing the regular season with a winning percent-
age under .500, the Rochester Knighthawks now celebrate their second
lacrosse championship, joining the franchise's 2007 Major Indoor
Lacrosse League Championship; and
WHEREAS, The Rochester Knighthawks were formed in 1995 and reached the
playoffs in each of their first 13 seasons which still stands as a leag-
ue record, beating out a string of 11 years which was held by the Phila-
delphia Wings; and
WHEREAS, The Rochester Knighthawks have been one of the league's most
successful franchises since its formation, having been consistently near
the top of the league standings despite playing in one of the league's
oldest arenas and smallest markets; and
WHEREAS, The city of Rochester and its surrounding communities have
provided a consistent and devoted fanbase to the Knighthawks which have
spurred several traditions, including a fan section dubbed the "Hawks'
Nest," and several player specific cheers; and
WHEREAS, The Rochester Knighthawks also excel off the field by donat-
ing their time and talents to many in the community through their annual
lacrosse summer youth camps, donations to various organizations in the
region and appearances at local schools, community centers and hospi-
tals; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, the Rochester Knighthawks bring the franchise's
first Champion's Cup to the city of Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by the play-
ers, coaches and personnel who have made the Rochester Knighthawks one
of the most successful indoor lacrosse franchises in history; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when athletes
of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention,
they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire Stag; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 2012 Rochester Knighthawks Lacrosse Team upon the occa-
sion of capturing the National Lacrosse League Championship; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Rochester Knighthawks.
