LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the American Autoimmune Related
Diseases Association upon the occasion of sponsoring the Autoimmune Walk
to be held Sunday, June 24, 2012, in Manhattan

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations,
events, and individuals devoted to improving the lives of the citizens
of the community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association upon the occasion
of sponsoring the Autoimmune Walk to be held Sunday, June 24, 2012, in
Manhattan; and
WHEREAS, The mission of this auspicious event is to promote awareness
of linking together all autoimmune diseases by giving the people a voice
in getting one step closer to a cure; and
WHEREAS, Fifty million Americans suffer from autoimmune disease and
there are over 100 different autoimmune diseases, including type 1-dia-
betes, lupus, Sjogrens' syndrome, celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis,
and many others; and
WHEREAS, The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA)
is the nation's only non-profit organization dedicated to bringing a
national focus to autoimmunity as a major women's health issue; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the organization is to promote a collaborative
research effort in order to find better treatments and ultimately a cure
for all autoimmune diseases as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Funds raised through the Autoimmune Walk will be used by
AARDA to support critical research aimed at solving the underlying
immune issues that link all autoimmune disorders; and
WHEREAS, Organizations such as AARDA which, because of their diligence
and compassionate commitment, significantly affect and help to improve
the quality of life of others, merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and celebrated by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association upon the
occasion of sponsoring the Autoimmune Walk to be held Sunday, June 24,
2012, in Manhattan, recognizing AARDA's mission to eradicate serious and
life-threatening diseases while providing help and hope through critical
services and awareness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association.
