LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Newburgh Free Academy Solar
Car Team upon the occasion of winning the 2012 Solar Prototype Champion-
ship of the Americas in the Shell Eco Marathon

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose efforts and achievements bring
honor and recognition to their communities and to the great State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, A team of students of the Newburgh Free Academy (NFA), which
is the public high school in the city of Newburgh, New York, and covers
the municipalities of the City of Newburgh, the Town of Newburgh and the
Town of New Windsor, have been recognized for their hard work, talents,
skills and achievements; and
WHEREAS, NFA has a Solar Car Team comprised of students of all differ-
ent backgrounds, and teachers from different disciplines as team advi-
sors, with Christopher Eachus, Advanced Placement Physics Teacher, who
has served as the program's Head Advisor for the last 10 years; and
WHEREAS, The Solar Car Team has competed in National and International
competitions, and in 2012, has earned the great honor of winning the
2012 Solar Prototype Championship of the Americas in the Shell Eco Mara-
thon in Houston, Texas, against 100 colleges and 10 high schools from
the United States, Canada and South America; and
WHEREAS, The team of 70 students have learned how to run a business
and the values of team work and cooperation, while working towards a
common goal and achieving success; and
WHEREAS, The Solar Car Team comprised of students from mathematics,
sciences and trade classes, have learned how to apply the theoretical to
the practical and bring it all together to focus on the technology of
the 21st Century; and
WHEREAS, The Newburgh Free Academy Solar Car Team has brought great
honor, pride and distinction to its community, the great State of New
York, and the Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Newburgh Free Academy Solar Car Team upon the occasion
of winning the 2012 Solar Prototype Championship of the Americas in the
Shell Eco Marathon; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the 2012 Newburgh Free Academy Solar Car Team.
