LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Stuart Steiner upon the occasion of
his retirement after 45 years of distinguished service as President of
Genesee Community College

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in those attend-
ing higher education in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Stuart Steiner upon the occasion of his retirement after 45 years of
distinguished service as President of Genesee Community College to be
observed at a celebration on Saturday, April 2, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Having served Genesee Community College since the late 1960s
with dedication and distinction, Dr. Stuart Steiner will retire at the
end of the academic year in the Spring of 2011; he will leave with the
distinction of being one of the longest serving Community College Presi-
dents in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Through Dr. Stuart Steiner's experienced vision and skilled
leadership, Genesee Community College has earned a reputation for excel-
lence and innovation throughout this Nation and abroad; and
WHEREAS, Recognized nationally and internationally for his knowledge
and expertise in higher education, Dr. Stuart Steiner has been frequent-
ly called upon for advice, assistance and numerous conference presenta-
tions by leading organizations such as the American Association of
Community Colleges, the Association of Community College Trustees, the
State University of New York, and the Middle States Commission on Higher
Education; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stuart Steiner has served the local community with equal
vigor and passion, and has served with distinction on numerous local
charitable and economic development boards and committees; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional leader's service, accomplishments and dedi-
cation have been recognized with acclaim through the University of
Texas's Community College Leadership Award, the Kellogg Foundation
Transformational Leadership Award, the SUNY Faculty Council Distin-
guished Service Award, and the Association of Community College Trustees
Northeast Region Chief Executive Award; and
WHEREAS, Educational Administrators provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, particularly Dr. Stuart Steiner, who
has inspired the lives of two generations of Genesee Community College
students in their educational journeys and ensuring their success for
years to come; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stuart Steiner has clearly had an enduring impact on the
students, both past and present, of the Genesee Community College, as
well as on the community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition
and applause for 45 years of impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Stuart Steiner upon the occasion of his retirement as Presi-

dent of the Genesee Community College, and to wish him continued success
in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Stuart Steiner.
