LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Doug Hutton in recognition of his heroic
action in saving another man's life on March 24, 2011

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, remaining calm
under pressure, in an effort to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Doug Hutton in
recognition of his heroic action in saving the life of a 72-year-old man
at Roessleville Elementary School on Thursday, March 24, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A South Colonie Custodian for 20 years, Doug Hutton was work-
ing the evening of March 24, 2011, while a group of men were playing
basketball in a Thursday night men's league; suddenly, one of the men
collapsed on the floor due to the fact that his heart had stopped; and
WHEREAS, Doug Hutton, who received certified training in the use of an
Automated External Defibrillator, reacted swiftly and calmly to adminis-
ter a shock to the man's heart; and
WHEREAS, Due to the quick and astute actions of Doug Hutton, the defi-
brillator shock restarted the man's heart, and ultimately saved his
life; and
WHEREAS, Doug Hutton should be meritoriously commended for remaining
calm under pressure and for showing valor and true courage while
performing a lifesaving deed; and
WHEREAS, Through his spontaneous and heroic actions, Doug Hutton
demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern of ordi-
nary citizens across the community of the State of New York who volun-
tarily respond when others are in need of help; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Doug Hutton in recognition of his heroic action in saving another
man's life on March 24, 2011, applauding his consummate courage and
bravery which serves as an inspiration to us all; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Doug Hutton.
