LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the Empire State Pride Agenda upon
the occasion of celebrating its 20th Anniversary

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the profound impact of those
exemplary organizations within the great State of New York which proac-
tively work for the enfranchisement of minority communities, and the
importance of such work for the benefit of all citizens of this State,
and indeed, all citizens of the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the Empire State Pride Agenda upon the occasion of celebrating its
20th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Empire State Pride Agenda is New York's statewide lesbi-
an, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights and advocacy
organization; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Empire State Pride Agenda is to win equal-
ity and justice for LGBT New Yorkers and their families; and
WHEREAS, Through this esteemed organization's education, organizing
and advocacy programs, they work toward creating a broadly diverse alli-
ance of LGBT people and allies in government, communities of faith,
labor, all sectors of the workforce and other social justice movements
to achieve equality for LGBT New Yorkers and the broader goals of
social, racial and economic justice; and
WHEREAS, The Empire State Pride Agenda's diligent efforts have led to
significant cultural, legal and governmental advances creating greater
equality for LGBT New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing the LGBT community still lacks the vast majority
of rights and protections most New Yorkers take for granted, the Empire
State Pride Agenda continues to work hard in its labors to secure and
protect equality and justice for LGBT citizens, equal protection for
their families and fair government benefits and services, thereby creat-
ing a fairer New York; and
WHEREAS, Our society is greatly benefited by the purposeful efforts of
individuals who unite for the cause of improving the quality of life for
others, and who proactively work toward the goal of dignity for all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Empire State Pride Agenda upon the occasion of celebrat-
ing its 20th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Empire State Pride Agenda.
