LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim February 19-26, 2012, as New York Saves Week, in conjunction
with America Saves Week

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to proclaim specific
weeks that bring attention and awareness to important issues that affect
the lives of the people living in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize Governor
Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim February 19-26, 2012, as New York Saves
Week, in conjunction with America Saves Week; and
WHEREAS, America Saves Week offers an annual opportunity for organiza-
tions to promote good-savings behavior and a chance for individuals to
assess their own saving status; and
WHEREAS, This particular cause is essential to the State of New York
since it ensures that individuals are prepared to save money, properly
manage credit, reduce debt, and become responsible workers, heads of
households, investors, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and citizens;
and
WHEREAS, This organized effort is a national social marketing campaign
that encourages low and moderate income individuals to save money,
reduce debt and build wealth; and
WHEREAS, America Saves partners with over 500 financial institutions
to provide no or low fee, low opening balance savings accounts which
allow all consumers to achieve success; in addition, more than 1,800
non-profit organizations, companies, government agencies, educational
institutions, religious institutions, and unions participate in America
Saves Week; and
WHEREAS, Some of the national partners include: Department of Defense,
IRS, Federal Reserve Bank, Cooperative State Research, Education, and
Extension Service (CSREES), and the USDA; and
WHEREAS, Personal and household savings are fundamental to New York
State's stability and vitality; and
WHEREAS, Adequate emergency savings, retirement funds, and safe debt-
income ratios are critical components of personal financial security;
and
WHEREAS, As families across the United States are struggling to cope
with a tough economy, New York State needs to be a leader in providing
its citizens with the appropriate economics and personal finance educa-
tion they need in order to be more effective consumers, savers, and
investors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim February 19-26, 2012,
as New York Saves Week, in conjunction with America Saves Week; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
