LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Melissa Lamica for her consummate cour-
age and bravery for demonstrating heroic action in a time of need which
serves as an inspiration to us all

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, nobly risking
their own lives in an effort to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Melissa Lamica
for her consummate courage and bravery for demonstrating heroic action
in a time of need by saving the life of a four month old prematurely
born baby, who had stopped breathing in the waiting room at the Platts-
burgh Family Courthouse on Tuesday, November 16, 2010; and
WHEREAS, The quick actions of Melissa Lamica saved the precious life
of a four month old prematurely born baby, who had stopped breathing, by
using her newly attained Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training
skills; and
WHEREAS, Melissa Lamica has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
caring concern and heroic acts of those exemplary citizens who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations and in doing so,
help others to avert life-threatening danger; and
WHEREAS, Through her spontaneous and heroic actions, Melissa Lamica,
demonstrated her character and her compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of her actions, the collective concern of ordi-
nary citizens across the community of the State of New York who volun-
tarily respond when others are in need of help; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Melissa Lamica for her consummate courage and bravery for demon-
strating heroic action in a time of need; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Melissa Lamica.
