LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Chautauqua County upon the occasion of
celebrating its Bicentennial on February 9, 2011

WHEREAS, Chautauqua County was officially established in February of
1811 and celebrates 200 years of rich history; and
WHEREAS, Chautauqua County is home to manufacturing, retail, health
care and service industries, tourism, farming, and food processing; and
WHEREAS, Chautauqua County hosts institutions of higher learning, such
as Jamestown Community College, SUNY Fredonia, Chautauqua Institution,
the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, and the Jackson Center; and
WHEREAS, Chautauqua County had the first community college in New York
State, the first natural gas well in the United States, the first grange
in the world, and the oldest lighthouse on the Great Lakes and the first
lighthouse ever to be lighted by natural gas; and
WHEREAS, Chautauqua County has been home to many prominent New York
State and United States citizens, has outstanding four season recre-
ational opportunities, and hosts some of the most beautiful land in the
state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Chautauqua County upon the occasion of celebrating its Bicenten-
nial on February 9, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chautauqua County.
