LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Leona Cook upon the occasion of being
selected as the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Leona Cook
upon the occasion of being selected as the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's 2013
Senior Citizen of the Year, in recognition of her invaluable contrib-
utions to the community through her outstanding, and much appreciated,
volunteer work; and
WHEREAS, As the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's 2013 Senior Citizen of the
Year, Leona Cook will participate in the Annual New York State Senior
Citizens Day Luncheon, hosted by the State Office for the Aging (SOFA),
at the Hart Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May
7, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Leona Cook was born in Akwesasne; she married, and is the
proud mother of six children and many grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Leona Cook has been a committed and active volunteer in her
community throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Leona Cook is renowned for her incredible fundraising abili-
ties, generating much needed financial support for many charitable caus-
es, including the Fire Department; in addition to supporting organiza-
tions, she has been helpful to many individuals who have crossed her
path over the years; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Leona Cook's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Leona Cook upon the occasion of being selected as the St. Regis
Mohawk Tribe's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Leona Cook.
