LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Plattekill Police Department Police
Officer Shirley Jiminian upon the occasion of receiving a Police Chiefs
Association of Ulster County's Meritorious Police Service - Police
Service Award on May 5, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York, there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Plattekill
Police Department Police Officer Shirley Jiminian upon the occasion of
receiving a Police Chiefs Association of Ulster County's Meritorious
Police Service - Police Service Award at its Law Enforcement Awards
Banquet which was held at the Diamond Mills and Tavern in Saugerties,
New York on May 5, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The results of a recent drug sweep by members of the Kingston
Police Department and Ulster County's Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement
Narcotics Taskforce (URGENT) aptly named Operation Clean Sweep were
quite impressive; and
WHEREAS, To know that only one police officer, Shirley Jiminian,
played an instrumental role in this case is even more staggering; a
recent drug sweep by the Kingston Police Department and members of
Ulster County's Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Task Force
(URGENT), the aptly named "Operation Clean Sweep", was the playing
field, and Plattekill Police Officer Shirley Jiminian was one of the
star quarterbacks; and
WHEREAS, It is no easy task keeping your cool and putting on your game
face when there are no duty weapons or vests allowed when playing on
this field; this was Shirley Jiminian's life while working with URGENT
on Clean Sweep; adding that to the stress of "being made" by one of the
bad guys and dealing with thugs and drugs on a daily basis is enough to
send most over the edge, but undercover officers like Shirley Jiminian
are a special breed, a tough breed which strives and is determined to
succeed; and
WHEREAS, Making 50 undercover drug buys which resulted in the arrest
of 17 drug dealers is impressive on anyone's resume; Shirley Jiminian's
ability to remain calm and relay accurate descriptions of targets and
associates was instrumental in the identification and prosecution of
these criminals; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Jiminian continued her professionalism on the witness
stand, delivering clear and concise testimony without fail, no easy
task, but one which an undercover officer knows is part of the job; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Plattekill Police Department Police Officer Shirley Jiminian upon
the occasion of receiving a Police Chiefs Association of Ulster County's
Meritorious Police - Service Police Service Award on May 5, 2013; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Plattekill Police Department Police Officer Shirley Jiminian.
