LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Michael Connolly upon the occasion of
finishing as the Regional Champion in the National History Bee Syracuse
Regional Finals on April 13, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Michael Connolly upon the occasion of finishing as the Regional Champion
in the National History Bee Syracuse Regional Finals; this esteemed
competition was held on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Eagle Hill Middle
School, Manlius, New York; and
WHEREAS, A Bethlehem Central Middle School student, Michael Connolly
is now eligible to advance to the National History Bee Championships and
compete for the title of National History Bee Champion; and
WHEREAS, The National History Bee is an individual academic competi-
tion for elementary and middle school students that tests knowledge of a
wide range of historical topics; students participate via Online
Regional Exams and/or in an Intramural Bee; and
WHEREAS, At the Regional Finals, the top 120 scorers within each of 35
regions compete against each other in a head-to-head Jeopardy!-style
buzzer contest at one of 35 sites across the United States; the top
finishers from each Regional are eligible to advance to the national
championships; and
WHEREAS, In achieving this academic feat, Michael Connolly has demon-
strated an impressive dedication and commitment to excellence that exem-
plify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation;
and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to engage and prepare
our students for future participation in the marketplace of ideas are
worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by his teachers, coaches and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Michael Connolly upon the occasion of finishing as the Regional
Champion in the National History Bee Syracuse Regional Finals, and qual-
ifying to advance to the National History Bee Championships; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Connolly.
