LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Ericka Jerabek upon the occasion
of celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of knowledge to the increasingly
active roles they play in today's society; their past contributions and
future participation are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the
fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Ericka
Jerabek upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Ericka Jerabek was born in Obertshausen, Germany, to Chris-
tian and Katherine Held, on April 17, 1913; she was the youngest of six
children; and
WHEREAS, Ericka Jerabek attended Business School in Germany; at the
age of 16, in 1929, she and her mother immigrated to the United States;
while working as a bookkeeper in New York City, she completed her educa-
tion; and
WHEREAS, Ericka Jerabek met her husband, the late Emanuel Jerabek and
together settled in Flushing; they later moved to St. Albans, New York,
where they raised four wonderful children; Eleonore Kullman, Edith
Valentino, Eric Jerabek, and Elihu Jerabek; and
WHEREAS, Today, Ericka Jerabek is the loving grandmother of 13 grand-
children, 34 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, Ericka Jerabek has always loved gardening, and is a wonderful
cook; she enjoys spending time with her family, and truly has been
blessed with a large loving family; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; she has expe-
rienced the incredible joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved
for those with the stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ericka Jerabek upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ericka Jerabek.
