LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Reverend Dr. Marie C. Houanche upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition by the Ambassador
For Christ International Outreach Ministry on September 1, 2013

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State are nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Reverend Dr.
Marie C. Houanche upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Ambassador For Christ International Outreach Ministry
at its 3rd Annual Pastors Appreciation Gala Dinner, to be held on
Sunday, September 1, 2013, at the Astoria World Manor, Astoria, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Marie C. Houanche is being recognized for her
dedicated work within the Haitian and American communities; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Marie C. Houanche was born in Ouanaminthe,
Haiti, was raised in Paris, France, and moved to the United States as a
teenager, attending Far Rockaway High School in Brooklyn, New York; she
graduated from Borough of Manhattan Community College with an associ-
ate's degree in Nursing, followed by a bachelor's degree from Medgar
Evers College, and a master's degree in Health Care Administration from
SUNY Downstate Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Marie C. Houanche entered the United States Army
in 1984 as a 2nd Lieutenant at Fort Hamilton, serving as a member of the
8th Medical brigade, Army Nurse Corps; ordained as a pastor, she has
served as an assistant chaplain in the Army, and is currently an
ordained chaplain with Anointing By God Seminary, which conferred upon
her an Honorary doctorate; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Reverend Dr. Marie C. Houanche upon the occasion of her desig-
nation for special recognition by the Ambassador For Christ Interna-
tional Outreach Ministry at its 3rd Annual Pastors Appreciation Gala
Dinner, noting her unremitting and compassionate faith and her exemplary
service to God, man, and her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Dr. Marie C. Houanche.
