LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Ichabod Crane Elementary
School Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the occasion of capturing first
place at the New York State Competition

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State by achieving outstanding success in educational
competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Ichabod Crane Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team upon
the occasion of capturing first place at the New York State Competition;
and
WHEREAS, The Ichabod Crane Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team
took first place in the New York State Competition; the seven member
team ranged in age from six to 11 years old, and presented their crea-
tive problem solution on March 23, 2013, in Binghamton to earn the New
York State Championship for Problem One in the Elementary Division; and
WHEREAS, The team members include: Blanca Payne, Lauren Bertand, Alex
Regan, Timothy Balon, Andrea Payne, Samara Regan and Julen Payne; they
have worked together since September of 2012, developing an eight-minute
skit involving three delivery vehicles; the team is coached by Laura
Michell-Regan and Maite Ascasibar; and
WHEREAS, The Ichabod Crane Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team
represented New York State at the World Finals on May 22-25, 2013, at
Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, The Odyssey of the Mind Competition teaches students to learn
creative problem-solving methods, encouraging individual expression,
imaginative thinking and team building skills in order to achieve
solutions; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
young scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplish-
ments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers,
family and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Ichabod Crane Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind
Team upon the occasion of capturing first place at the New York State
Competition, and offer them its best wishes for a future of purposeful
success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Ichabod Crane Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team.
