LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joe Zurovchak upon the occasion of his
designation as the recipient of a 2013 SUNY Chancellor's Award for
Excellence in Teaching

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joe
Zurovchak upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient of a
2013 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching; and
WHEREAS, Professor Zurovchak has been a member of the SUNY Orange
faculty since 2000; he has taught a variety of courses and brings his
expertise in ornithology, entomology, natural history, ecology, and
environmental science to the classroom; and
WHEREAS, Joe Zurovchak has spearheaded much of the College's sustaina-
bility efforts over the past six years; he has served as the Chair of
the SUNY Orange Sustainability Committee since its creation in 2007,
having helped to develop an energy audit, greenhouse gas emissions
report, and interim climate action plan for the College; and
WHEREAS, Joe Zurovchak has been active in other College initiatives as
well; he served on the College's Governance Executive Committee for
three years and provided guidance for SUNY Orange's "Global Initiative:
Sustaining the Earth" in 2009; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he sits on the New Jersey Natural Heritage
Committee and serves on the Orange County Bird Checklist Committee; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of individuals such as Professor Joe Zurovchak, who, by provid-
ing their skills and talents to our schools, work to support our proud
tradition of public education; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Joe Zurovchak and to wish him contin-
ued success in his endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joe Zurovchak upon the occasion of his designation as the recipi-
ent of a 2013 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joe Zurovchak.
