LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the North Bellmore Fire Department
upon the occasion of its 90th Anniversary and on hosting its 6th Battal-
ion Parade and Drill on September 20 and 21, 2013

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend the North Bellmore
Fire Department upon the occasion of its 90th Anniversary and on hosting
its 6th Battalion Parade and Drill on September 20 and 21, 2013, honor-
ing its past and present firefighting members for 90 years of fire
protection to the citizens and merchants of North Bellmore, East Meadow,
North Merrick and Bellmore and surrounding communities with outstanding
fire protection and many hours of community service; and
WHEREAS, Fire departments are an integral part of community protection
services in every locality of our State; during the past 90 years, the
courageous and devoted firefighters of the North Bellmore Fire Depart-
ment have valiantly responded to all types of fire emergencies and have
justly won the praise and respect of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, The 6th Battalion, comprised of the North Bellmore, Bellmore,
East Meadow, Levittown, Massapequa, Merrick, North Massapequa, North
Merrick, Seaford and Wantagh Fire Departments, is the largest Battalion
in all of Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, With a membership of dedicated firefighters, the records of
these Fire Departments in public service and fire protection are to be
envied; for 24 hours a day, for 365 days a year, whenever the alarm has
sounded, these noble volunteers have left their homes and gone to the
aid of their neighbors; and
WHEREAS, The 6th Battalion Parade and Drill will be attended by count-
less members of all these departments, as well as by the members of the
many guest departments which are participating and, both events also
welcome attendees from the general public; and
WHEREAS, The brave firefighters of all the participating fire depart-
ments are prepared to risk their lives every day to help save the lives
of others and to protect homes and property from the destruction caused
by fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude to
those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have the opportunity of
the 6th Battalion Parade and Drill to give special recognition to all
those who work so assiduously for the betterment of their communities
and to acknowledge publicly the heroic good works performed by the
volunteer fire departments of this great Empire State, their officers
and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
proudly commend the North Bellmore Fire Department upon the occasion of
its 90th Anniversary and of hosting its 6th Battalion Parade and Drill
on September 20 and 21, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the North Bellmore Fire Department.
