LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Gavin Piester upon the occasion of
being honored for his outstanding scholastic achievement at the Schol-
ars' Recognition Dinner, May 8, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the ideals and
values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Gavin
Piester upon the occasion of being honored for his outstanding scholas-
tic achievement at the Scholars' Recognition Dinner, on Wednesday, May
8, 2013, at the Albany Marriott Hotel; this year's keynote speaker was
Dr. Susan Scrimshaw, President of The Sage Colleges; and
WHEREAS, The Scholars' Recognition Program honors the exceptional
academic accomplishments of members of the graduating classes of the
public, private, parochial and BOCES secondary schools in 11 neighboring
Capital District counties; and
WHEREAS, The high schools selected these students based on their scho-
larship, leadership, and service to their schools and communities; the
students then each nominated a teacher who has influenced their lives in
a significant way; and
WHEREAS, A student at The Albany Academy, Gavin Piester has earned the
distinction of reigning scholar at his school by virtue of undertaking
the most rigorous set of courses available to students, including eight
Advanced Placement courses, as well as a plethora of Honors level cours-
es; and
WHEREAS, Gavin Piester is also very involved in many extracurricular
activities; and
WHEREAS, Gavin Piester credits teacher Bo Buran with recognizing his
desire to learn and ability to succeed, pushing him to expect excellence
of himself; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments,
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by his teachers and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Gavin Piester upon the occasion of being honored for his
outstanding scholastic achievement at the Scholars' Recognition Dinner;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gavin Piester.
