LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Gregory Hickey upon the occasion
of being honored for his outstanding scholastic achievement at the Scho-
lars' Recognition Dinner, May 8, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the ideals and
values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, this Legislative Body is justly
proud to congratulate Gregory Hickey upon the occasion of being honored
for his outstanding scholastic achievement at the Scholars' Recognition
Dinner, May 8, 2013, at the Albany Marriott Hotel; this year's keynote
speaker was Dr. Susan Scrimshaw, President of The Sage Colleges; and
WHEREAS, The Scholars' Recognition Program honors the outstanding
scholastic achievement of members of the graduating classes of the
public, private, parochial and BOCES secondary schools in 11 neighboring
Capital District counties; and
WHEREAS, The high schools selected these students to recognize their
scholarship, leadership and service to their schools and communities;
the students then each nominated a teacher who has influenced their
lives in a significant way; and
WHEREAS, A sudent at Shaker High School, Gregory Hickey possesses an
abundance of natural ability; he was named a National Merit Semi-Final-
ist and earned a six-semester average of 98%; he is involved in numerous
extracurricular activities and his commitment to the Uganda schools
project speaks highly of his character; and
WHEREAS, Through the Uganda schools project, known as Engeye Teen
Connection, Gregory was instrumental in raising funds which facilitated
the purchase of text books and solar panels for a Ugandan school; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Hickey proudly named Deborah Howard as a teacher who
influenced his life in a significant way, noting that Mrs. Howard is an
enthusiastic and supportive teacher and that she works hard to make her
students feel comfortable and inspires them to do their best; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by his teachers and parents;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Gregory Hickey upon the occasion of being honored for his
outstanding scholastic achievement at the Scholars' Recognition Dinner;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gregory Hickey.
