LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Congre-
gation Agudas Achim of Livingston Manor, New York, to be celebrated June
2, 2013

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
100th Anniversary of Congregation Agudas Achim of Livingston Manor, New
York, to be celebrated with a dinner, Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Bernie's
Holiday Restaurant in Rock Hill, New York; and
WHEREAS, Congregation Agudas Achim, which translates to "gathering of
friends", is known for its welcoming nature and open door policy; all
are welcome and encouraged to attend regardless of membership; and
WHEREAS, The congregation was originally Orthodox, but with a change
in the demographics of Livingston Manor in the 1980s, a new generation
of congregants spearheaded an effort to follow a path of Reform Judaism
rather than the more strict Orthodox methods; and
WHEREAS, The spirit and inviting nature of Congregation Agudas Achim
has attracted members from throughout Sullivan County and the region;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when insti-
tutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Congregation Agudas Achim of
Livingston Manor, New York, to be observed on June 2, 2013, fully confi-
dent that this commemoration reflects the belief in those values which
enhance the dignity and purpose of life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Congregation Agudas Achim, Livingston Manor, New York.
