LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Eldred Central School District
upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of a 2013 Best Commu-
nity for Music Education Award by the National Association of Music
Merchants

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose exem-
plary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate the pursuit of
excellence in education and service to the community; a nationwide
survey finds that school districts committed to music education serve to
assure success for their students in school and in life; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
congratulate the Eldred Central School District upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of a 2013 Best Community for Music Education
Award by the National Association of Music Merchants; and
WHEREAS, Heralding the commitment to music education, the National
Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has designated 307
school districts across the country as Best Communities for Music Educa-
tion in a record-breaking year for participation; and
WHEREAS, In addition to Best Community Districts, 66 individual
schools earned the 2013 Support Music Merit Award for providing students
with access to comprehensive music education; and
WHEREAS, NAMM's Best Communities designation recognizes collaborative,
from the ground-up efforts of teachers, administrators, students and
parents who continually work to keep comprehensive music education as an
integral part of the core curriculum; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, nearly 2000 schools and school districts partic-
ipated in the survey - an increase of 366% from 2012, resulting in a
record number of designations; this year's increase in survey partic-
ipation is an indication of growing support from both parents and admin-
istrators who recognize the vital role that music learning plays in
student achievement; and
WHEREAS, The Eldred Central School District was one of 307 school
districts selected as a Best Community for Music Education Award from
over 2000 submitted surveys; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its Superintendent of Schools,
Robert M. Dufour, the Eldred Central School District has demonstrated
the success of its music education program over many years; and
WHEREAS, The outstanding music programs of the Eldred Central School
District have reflected favorably on all who participate in them, and
have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is
the tradition of the District; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Eldred Central School District upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of a 2013 Best Community for Music Education
Award by the National Association of Music Merchants; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Eldred Central School District.
