LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Lake Success Jewish Center
upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2013

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in congratulating the
Lake Success Jewish Center upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th
Anniversary in 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Lake Success Jewish Center traces its roots to a group of
families that met in a local restaurant in 1962 in order to form an
association then known as the North Shore Jewish Center; and
WHEREAS, Officially formed on December 24, 1963, the Lake Success
Jewish Center acquired the present property at the corner of Lakeville
Road and the Northern State Parkway in 1964; and
WHEREAS, In 1965, the Lake Success Jewish Center built its existing
structure whose cornerstone, a gift from the State of Israel, was cut
from Jerusalem marble from a quarry located in the Judean Hills above
the Jordan Valley; and
WHEREAS, The eastern wall of the sanctuary of the Lake Success Jewish
Center was constructed as a replica of a section of the "Kotel," the
wall which surrounded the Temple in Jerusalem, with the "Aron Hakodesh"
(Torah Ark) depicting the portable ark constructed by Moses and the
children of Israel to carry the Ten Commandments during their 40 years
in the desert; and
WHEREAS, From its inception, one of the primary goals of the Lake
Success Jewish Center was, and still is, the teaching of the children;
to that end, the Hebrew School has been an integral part of the Center
since its inception; and
WHEREAS, Under its current Rabbi, Michael Klayman, the Lake Success
Jewish Center is standing on the threshold of tomorrow and prepared to
meet the challenges of the coming decades while retaining that spiritual
resolve which characterizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Lake Success Jewish Center upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 50th Anniversary in 2013, fully confident that this commem-
oration reflects the belief in those values which enhance the dignity
and purpose of life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Lake Success Jewish Center.
