LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Cora Butler upon the occasion of her
designation as a recipient of a 2013 Mid-Hudson Athletic League Senior
Scholar Athlete Award

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its young
citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Cora Butler
upon the occasion of her designation as a recipient of a 2013 Mid-Hudson
Athletic League (MHAL) Senior Scholar Athlete Award; and
WHEREAS, Academically and athletically, Cora Butler has distinguished
herself as a young woman of superlative ability, talent, and maturity,
establishing standards of excellence and achievement, purposefulness of
life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, Cora Butler, a student at New Paltz High School in New Paltz,
New York, is ranked 2nd in her class and plays soccer, basketball, and
is a member of the spring track team; and
WHEREAS, She is Salutatorian of her class, a member of National Honor
Society, 4H Club, Spanish Club, and travel soccer; she plans to attend
the University of Pennsylvania, major in Architecture, and run track and
field; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her classmates, Cora Butler has
brought honor to her family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, Cora Butler may stand with pride in her achievements, experi-
encing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her accomplish-
ments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as she continues
her education; and
WHEREAS, Cora Butler represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
this young woman, recognizing her achievements and the promise of her
future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cora Butler upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a
2013 Mid-Hudson Athletic League Senior Scholar Athlete Award, and to
wish her well in her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cora Butler.
