LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Emma Weiss upon the occasion of join-
ing the 1,000 point club of the Lady Gladiators Varsity Basketball Team

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Emma Weiss
upon the occasion of joining the 1,000 point club of the Lady Gladiators
Varsity Basketball Team; and
WHEREAS, On Friday, February 7, 2014, Goshen High School senior Emma
Weiss became the third member of the 1,000 point club for the Lady
Gladiators Varsity Basketball Team; she did so on her fourth point of
the game against Chapel Field, during which time she was presented with
a game ball and a basketball signed by her teammates; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Emma Weiss is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Gus Lawson, a skilled and inspirational
tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into excellence;
and
WHEREAS, Goshen was ranked No. 6 in the Class A state poll on January
7, 2014, thanks in part to the exceptional athletic abilities of Emma
Weiss, a 5-foot-8 offensive forward who wears number 13; she regularly
leads the team in rebounds, steals, blocks, assists and free throws; and
WHEREAS, Emma Weiss' overall record is outstanding and she was loyally
and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the communi-
ty at large; and
WHEREAS, Throughout Goshen's first eight games, Emma Weiss has aver-
aged 18 points, and has won a pair of tournament MVP honors at Goshen's
Santa Slam and George McGinnis Classic events; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
athletic competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
exemplary athlete now stands honorably, with just pride in her accom-
plishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding
and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by her coaches,
teachers, and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Emma Weiss upon the occasion of joining the 1,000 point club of
the Lady Gladiators Varsity Basketball Team on February 7, 2014; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Emma Weiss.
