LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jack Spyker-Oles upon the occasion of
his induction into the SUNY Ulster Alumni Hall of Fame on March 18, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and
in service to their community merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
and commend Jack Spyker-Oles, well-known and highly regarded for his
dedication and strong work ethic, upon the occasion of his induction
into the SUNY Ulster Alumni Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Jack Spyker-Oles, Class of 2005, will be recognized for his
outstanding personal and professional accomplishments in the areas of
education, business, and civic leadership, at the Alumni Hall of Fame
Induction Ceremony and Reception hosted by Ulster Community College
Foundation, Inc. to be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Ulster
Savings Bank Community Conference Center, on the Stone Ridge Campus of
SUNY Ulster, in Stone Ridge, New York; this event will be a part of the
College's yearlong 50th Anniversary celebration; and
WHEREAS, Jack Spyker-Oles attended SUNY Ulster to retool his skills
after a 25-year engineering career with International Business Machines
Corporation; he earned a certificate in Web Page Design, and an associ-
ate degree in Advertising Design and Graphic Technology, before complet-
ing a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts with a minor in Music from SUNY
New Paltz; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, Jack Spyker-Oles and his family established the
Henrdikus and Lena Spijker Memorial Scholarship in honor of his mother
and father; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Jack Spyker-Oles is a mentor for the SUNY Ulster
Mentor Success Alumni/Student Program, and both a tenor and graphic
designer for Cappella Festiva Chamber Choir at Vassar College; and
WHEREAS, Jack Spyker-Oles, a resident of Kerhonkson, New York, has
contributed his time and talents to countless civic and charitable
endeavors as a volunteer for the Ulster Choral Society, Onteora Runners
Club, Prostate Cancer 101 support group, and Hospice; and
WHEREAS, His extensive list of accomplishments now includes induction
into the Alumni Hall of Fame of SUNY Ulster, the place where his higher
education began; and
WHEREAS, Many distinguished community members will gather at the
Induction Ceremony to honor Jack Spyker-Oles's leadership, professional
accomplishments, and passion for education; SUNY Ulster and the communi-
ties it serves are appreciative of his outstanding efforts, just as he
is, in turn, grateful for the opportunities SUNY Ulster has provided
him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jack Spyker-Oles upon the occasion of his induction into the SUNY
Ulster Alumni Hall of Fame on March 18, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jack Spyker-Oles.
