LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Awdifa Abdin upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2014 Silver Key Award by the Alliance
for Young Artists and Writers

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Awdifa Abdin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2014 Silver Key Award by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers; and
WHEREAS, A freshman at Mineola High School, Awdifa Abdin received the
esteemed Silver Key Award, a Regional Award in the Scholastic Art and
Writing national contest in which there were more than 250,000
submissions; and
WHEREAS, She earned the Silver Key Award in the category of flash
fiction for her work entitled "Melodic Medicine" which is about a girl
who helps her sister with cancer by playing music; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, coaches and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Awdifa Abdin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2014 Silver Key Award by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Awdifa Abdin.
