LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chef Bill Telepan upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Progressive Leadership Award by the
Citizen Action of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Chef
Bill Telepan upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Progressive Leadership Award by the Citizen Action of New York, to be
celebrated at its Awards Gala on Tuesday, December 4, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Citizen Action of New York works as part of U.S. Action to
build better futures for families and communities throughout the State
and nation; for 29 years, Citizen Action of New York has spearheaded
successful efforts to guarantee quality and affordable health care to
all, successful quality education and early learning programs and the
promotion of racial justice; and
WHEREAS, Citizen Action is honoring Bill Telepan for his incredible
activism, along with raising awareness about the threat hydraulic frac-
turing poses to crops, food, drinking water and the land; Citizen Action
has been at the forefront of the fight to ban hydrofracking in New York;
and
WHEREAS, Bill Telepan works with Chefs for the Marcellus, which is a
group of chefs, restaurateurs, farmers, brewers, vintners, and other
food professionals who have come together to protect the regional
foodshed from the dangers of hydraulic fracturing; he also leads well-
ness in the schools, working to inspire healthy eating and fitness in
public schools; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Chef Bill Telepan and to wish him
continued success in all of his future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chef Bill Telepan upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Progressive Leadership Award by the Citizen Action of New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chef Bill Telepan.
