LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation of Northeastern New York's Stair Climb

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of North-
eastern New York's Stair Climb on Thursday, March 7, 2013, in Albany,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that
causes mucus to build up and clog some of the organs in the body,
particularly the lungs and pancreas; when mucus clogs the lungs, it can
make breathing very difficult; the mucus also causes bacteria (or germs)
to get stuck in the airways, which causes inflammation (or swelling) and
infections that lead to lung damage; and
WHEREAS, Participants run up 809 steps (42 flights) of stairs at the
Empire State Plaza's Corning Tower to support the fight of Cystic Fibro-
sis and spread awareness about the disease; and
WHEREAS, This is the oldest Cystic Fibrosis stair climb in the coun-
try; in its history, it has drawn about 200 participants each year where
participants have climbed more than 3.8 million steps combined and
raised a significant amount to help fund research to find a cure for
this dreaded disease; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of
Northeastern New York's Stair Climb; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Northeastern New York.
