LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Ex-Captain John DeBlasio on the occa-
sion of his designation for special recognition after 35 years of dedi-
cated service to the North Lindenhurst Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Ex-Captain John
DeBlasio upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 35 years of dedicated service to the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department; and
WHEREAS, John DeBlasio will be honored at the Department's 56th Annual
Installation Dinner to be held at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale,
New York on Saturday, March 23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Ex-Captain John DeBlasio joined the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department on May 10, 1976; he promptly completed his Certificate of
Qualification as a firefighter and has since completed several addi-
tional certificates, including Advanced Emergency Medical Technician;
and
WHEREAS, John DeBlasio was an officer in Engine Company No. 1 Rescue
Squad and Fire Police Company No. 5; he maintains certifications for
instructing emergency medical technicians, an extremely valuable asset
for the North Lindenhurst Fire Department Rescue Company and the resi-
dents of the community; and
WHEREAS, John DeBlasio's record reflects several commendations includ-
ing a commendation from the Emergency Medical Service Director for
resuscitating a patient and, in 1992, he was named an EMS Educator of
Excellence; and
WHEREAS, John DeBlasio's record and the numerous certificates he has
earned reflect his dedication to both the fire and rescue service; his
committee activity includes service on the Membership, Quality Assur-
ance, and Ambulance Purchase Committees; and
WHEREAS, He is always willing to share his knowledge, assisting during
Fire Prevention Week and providing First Aid courses to the Little Leag-
ue and Girl Scouts; and
WHEREAS, John DeBlasio raised his family in North Lindenhurst; he
played an active role in their educational careers and continues to be a
valuable asset to North Lindenhurst Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; John
DeBlasio is such a firefighter; throughout 35 years of devoted service,
John DeBlasio has heroically performed, above and beyond the call of
duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ex-Captain John DeBlasio for 35 years of distinguished service
to the North Lindenhurst Fire Department and his community; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ex-Captain John DeBlasio.
