LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Joshua Guteres upon the occasion
of receiving the distinguished Gold Medal of Achievement, the most pres-
tigious of Royal Rangers awards

WHEREAS, Joshua Guteres, through his diligence and rigorous efforts, has
achieved the most prestigious of Royal Rangers awards, the Gold Medal of
Achievement; the Royal Rangers Award Ceremony was held on Saturday,
March 9, 2013, at the Assembly of God of Shirley, in Shirley, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Joshua Guteres is a member of Royal Rangers Outpost 103,
Shirley, New York; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Royal Rangers and its members are dedicated to the devel-
opment of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in the Royal Rangers
program is the distinguished Gold Medal of Achievement; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in the Royal
Rangers program for many years, has lived up to its ideals and has
attained all of the necessary achievements, including completion of a
community service project, which was successfully planned, developed and
executed; and
WHEREAS, For his project, which took several months to complete, Josh-
ua Guteres created a community garden at his church, Grace Lutheran
Church; he brought in top soil, tilled it, created raised beds for indi-
viduals with handicaps, fenced it in, and installed an irrigation
system; and
WHEREAS, The main idea of this vital project was to help the less
fortunate within the community; the completed project allows anyone to
use the garden and plant crops, tend to them, and harvest what they grow
to supplement the groceries they buy; in addition, food grown at this
community garden will be donated to local food pantries; and
WHEREAS, Joshua Guteres' perseverance in rising through the ranks of
the Royal Rangers program is a strong indication of his ability to
master difficult tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as
a leader, fully equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex soci-
ety; and
WHEREAS, This Royal Rangers Gold Medal of Achievement honoree is a
credit to his family, his school, his community, his State and his
Nation, and no doubt his future will be filled with accomplishments of
equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Joshua Guteres on attaining the Gold Medal of
Achievement; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joshua Guteres.
