LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Richard and Kelly Alfred upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of a Sidney Albert Albany
Jewish Community Center Pillars of the Community Award on April 14, 2013

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors,
and community service are an example and inspiration to their
colleagues, friends, family, and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Richard and Kelly Alfred upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of a Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center Pillars of
the Community Award at the Center's 13th Annual Pillars of the Community
Awards Brunch to be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Albany's Congre-
gation Beth Emeth; and
WHEREAS, The Pillars of the Community Award is presented to individ-
uals who have made exceptional contributions to the Center and/or to the
Jewish community at-large through education, service, and acts of kind-
ness; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard and Kelly Alfred truly merit such recognition;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard and Kelly Alfred are lifelong residents of the
Albany area who share a profound passion and commitment to their commu-
nity; Kelly, a graduate of Shenendehowa High School and Russell Sage
College, and Rick, a graduate of Albany High School, Harvard College and
Albany Medical College, have deep-seated roots and a long-standing
philanthropic history in the community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alfred is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializ-
ing in sports medicine; he currently serves as the team physician for
Siena College, Hudson Valley Community College and the Sage Colleges and
as the trauma physician for the Saratoga Race Course and, he is the
former training camp physician for the New York Football Giants; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alfred completed his orthopedic surgery training at the
Albany Medical Center Hospital and The Cleveland Clinic; he has been in
practice with the Capital Region Orthopedic Group since 1987; and
WHEREAS, The Alfreds' time, talent and treasure are not to be under-
stated; Rick is a former board member of the Albany Jewish Community
Center; he and Kelly are also the generous benefactors of the Alfred and
Pitoniak Family Playground at the Albany JCC and, Kelly is a former Vice
President and board member of the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern
New York; and
WHEREAS, Among the many awards and honors Dr. Alfred has earned are
the Hudson Valley Community College Distinguished Service Award in 2009,
the Thomas Sheehan Memorial Award from RPI in 2010, and his induction,
in 2012, into the City School District of Albany Athletic Hall of Fame;
also in 2012, Kelly and Rick received the Epilepsy Foundation Flame of
Hope Award; and
WHEREAS, Married in 2002, Rick and Kelly Alfred are members of Congre-
gation Beth Emeth; they reside in Delmar and are the proud parents of
five children: Joshua, Craig, Bradley and Makayla Alfred, and Molly
Livingston; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their professional and commu-
nity service, a period of constructive involvement, Dr. Richard and
Kelly Alfred have stood constant in dignity, good grace, and humor and

have earned the respect and admiration of their colleagues, family and
friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Dr. Richard and Kelly Alfred have
displayed throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Richard and Kelly Alfred upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as recipients of a Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center
Pillars of the Community Award on April 14, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Richard and Kelly Alfred.
