LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Deputy Mayor William H. White, Jr. upon
the occasion of his retirement after many years of distinguished service
to the Village of Freeport, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have devoted
themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their community
and the needs of its residents; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Deputy Mayor William H. White, Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement
after many years of distinguished service to the Village of Freeport,
New York, to be celebrated with a surprise party held in his honor on
Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the Coral House in Baldwin, New York; and
WHEREAS, The son of former Freeport Village Mayor William H. White,
Sr., William "Bill" H. White, Jr. is a 1974 graduate of Freeport High
School; he attended Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, where he
received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1978; and
WHEREAS, Since 1979, Bill White has been in the insurance business in
Freeport; for almost 30 years, he has been partners with another 1974
Freeport High School graduate at the White and Re Insurance Agency
located in Freeport, New York; today, the White and Re Insurance Agency
is a strong supporter of student-athletes in Freeport; and
WHEREAS, In June of 1998, Bill White was appointed to the Board of
Trustees to fill a vacancy, and was subsequently elected in March of
1999, and re-elected in 2003, 2007, and 2011; he has served as Deputy
Mayor for the past year; and
WHEREAS, Prior to serving on the Board of Trustees, Bill White was a
member and Deputy Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for 13 years;
he also served on the Lydia Hall Hospital Task Force, and the Over-Occu-
pancy Task Force in several village administrations; and
WHEREAS, At various times during his tenure as a Trustee, Bill White
served as the Village Board's liaison to the Public Works, Building,
Electric, Police, and Fire Departments, and the Community Development
Agency; he will serve out his final term and officially retire from the
Board in April of 2015; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Bill White is a longtime Director of
the Freeport Chamber of Commerce, serving on several committees; in
October of 2002, he was the recipient of Freeport's Businessperson of
the Year Award by the Nassau County Council of Chambers of Commerce, and
in 2004, he was honored by the Freeport Chamber at its annual golf
outing; subsequently, the Chamber honored White and Re Insurance Agency
in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Bill White is the past president of the Exchange
Club of Freeport, an International Service Organization focusing on
child abuse prevention, and has served on the local Salvation Army Advi-
sory Board; he also served on the Directors Advisory Council for the De
La Salle School, a school for young men in grades 5-8; and
WHEREAS, In April of 2010, Bill White received the National Flood
Insurance Program Community Rating System Award for Excellence at its
annual meeting in San Diego, California; this was the first award of its
kind given nationally to the individual who has provided leadership in
the area of promoting the National Flood Program, and alerting residents
to programs for flood mitigation in their community; and
WHEREAS, Bill White has faithfully served as Deputy Mayor of the
Village of Freeport; he will be remembered for his honesty, integrity,

keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of human problems
in his official acts; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Elizabeth, and their
two daughters, Lauren and Jennifer, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Bill White, and to wish him continued
success in all his future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Deputy Mayor William H. White, Jr. upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service to the Village of
Freeport, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Deputy Mayor William H. White, Jr.
