LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Doug Geed upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Long Island Farm Bureau Citizen Award on
April 17, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Doug
Geed upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Long
Island Farm Bureau Citizen Award, to be celebrated at its 97th Annual
Awards Gala on Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Riverhead Polish Hall,
Riverhead, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised on Long Island, Doug Geed worked at WALK
Radio in Patchogue as a reporter and anchor from 1981 until 1986, when
he became one of the original members of News 12 Long Island, the coun-
try's first regional, 24-hour cable news television station; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Syosset High School and the University of
Missouri School of Journalism, Doug Geed created News 12's East End
Bureau in 1991, serving as bureau chief until 1997, when he became morn-
ing anchor; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, that same year, he created News 12's Emmy Award
winning "East End Show" where he serves as producer, host and reporter;
and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man has received 10 New York Emmy Awards as
well as dozens of other regional, state and local awards, including
Journalist of the Year from the Long Island chapter of the Society of
Professional Journalists; and
WHEREAS, Doug Geed has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; among the farming community, he is known for
his unremitting and steadfast dedication to Long Island agriculture; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife, and their
three beautiful children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Doug Geed has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Doug Geed upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Long Island Farm Bureau Citizen Award on April 17, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Doug Geed.
