LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Peg Spain Murtagh for her leadership and
service to Joseph's House & Shelter

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Peg Spain Murtagh has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Peg Spain
Murtagh for her leadership and service to Joseph's House & Shelter which
was celebrated at its Winter Walk and Love Thy Neighbor Festival Kick-
off Gala on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at the Franklin Terrace Ballroom
in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Joseph's House & Shelter is a Troy community based not-for-
profit corporation whose purpose is to prevent and alleviate homeless-
ness; its programs offer emergency shelter, permanent housing, support
services, hospitality and guidance to homeless individuals, youth and
families; and
WHEREAS, Joseph's House & Shelter offers non-judgmental services where
each guest's dignity and worth are recognized and respected; the corpo-
ration guides its guests in getting help from community agencies, and
acts as an advocate for the homeless to address immediate and long term
needs; and
WHEREAS, For several decades, Peg Spain Murtagh has provided leader-
ship and service to Joseph's House & Shelter; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1983, Peg Spain Murtagh was an
original volunteer of Joseph's House & Shelter; and
WHEREAS, In the late 1980s, Peg Spain Murtagh assumed the role of
Executive Director of Joseph's House & Shelter; she was instrumental in
helping keep its doors open during demanding times; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this exceptional woman led the agency through
transitions which poised it for an expansion in services; and
WHEREAS, Peg Spain Murtagh has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Peg Spain Murtagh has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Peg Spain Murtagh has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Peg Spain Murtagh for her leadership and service to Joseph's House
& Shelter; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Peg Spain Murtagh.
