LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Housing
Visions, on May 7, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of Housing Visions, to be celebrated on
Thursday, May 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Housing Visions was formed by a task force of dedi-
cated citizens who were focused on making a positive change in the
greater East Genesee Street neighborhood within the city of Syracuse,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Two years later, Housing Visions finished its first neighbor-
hood revitalization project on Syracuse's east side by utilizing low
income housing tax credits; and
WHEREAS, Soon after, Housing Visions expanded; this vital organization
began serving the residents of the north side of Syracuse in 1996, and
then the city's south side in 2004; and
WHEREAS, To date, the Syracuse neighborhood revitalization projects
have consisted of 16 low-income housing tax credit projects, including
several large houses and historic buildings; the most recently planned
project is VanKeuren Square, which will offer 50 housing units reserved
for veterans through the Syracuse VA Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, In 2002, Housing Visions formed a separate not-for-profit
affiliate called Housing Visions Construction Company to help increase
the availability of quality housing to low and moderate-income resi-
dents; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, Housing Visions established another charitable part-
ner, Visions For Change, which focuses on the mission of eliminating
poverty through education, resource building, and partnerships to
further secure lasting change in the neighborhoods it serves; and
WHEREAS, Today, Housing Visions, under the leadership of President/CEO
Kenyon Craig, continues to remain committed to neighborhood revitaliza-
tion in numerous ways, including providing direction to new and existing
projects, serving as a full construction company, and by offering
friendly customer service to each family through a range of activities,
such as leasing, rent collection and compliance; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Housing Visions, on May 7, 2015; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kenyon Craig, President and CEO, Housing Visions.
