LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Kaplan Family Charitable Founda-
tions upon the occasion of their designation for special recognition by
the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse on May 7, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Kaplan Family Foundations upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, at
its Annual There's No Excuse for Child Abuse Gala and Silent Auction to
be held at Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls, New York, on Thursday,
May 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1973, the Center for the Prevention of Child
Abuse is a private, not-for-profit agency which provides educational
programs, community outreach and services to minimize and end the cycle
of child abuse and neglect in the Mid-Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, Due to the Kaplan family's thoughtful vision, spirited
commitment to the community and generous advocacy for countless organ-
izations, and groups, the Kaplan Family Charitable Foundations have
positively impacted their community in heartfelt ways that will be felt
for decades to come; and
WHEREAS, William Kaplan and his late wife Elaine, passed their sense
of commitment along to daughters Joan, Sheila, Deborah, and Amy, all of
whom continue to share their parent's vision with their own children;
and
WHEREAS, The Kaplan family's philanthropic efforts have contributed to
the advancement and the creation of educational, health care and chil-
dren's programs and facilities that have generated opportunities for
countless residents in the Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, Over the past three decades, members of the Kaplan family
have supported the city of Newburgh in numerous ways, including
constructing or renovating numerous not-for-profit buildings, supporting
St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties
Inc., and The Greater Hudson Valley Health Care Center; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Kaplan Family Charitable Foundations has
collaborated with Habitat for Humanity, Newburgh Day Nursery, The Holden
Home, Congregation Agudas Israel, Jewish Family Services, Inspire,
Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County, The Hudson Valley Boy Scout
Council, and Occupations' Inc.; and
WHEREAS, The Kaplan family's commitment to education provided the
support needed for educational facilities, program enhancement, and
scholarship programs at SUNY Orange, Mount Saint Mary College and
McQuade Children's Services at St. Christopher's Campus; and
WHEREAS, Today, Kaplan Family Charitable Foundations is focusing on
several vital organizations, including the Newburgh Armory Unity Center,
The National Purple Heart Museum, the Kol Yisrael Campus, and The Center
for the Prevention of Child Abuse in Dutchess and Orange Counties; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Kaplan Family Charitable Foundations have
extended their philanthropic efforts to the Boston/North Shore area of
Massachusetts by funding the Harvard Research Center for Neurological
Diseases and The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Danvers; and
WHEREAS, The Kaplan Family and the Kaplan Family Charitable Founda-
tions, which includes dedicated public board members, continue to demon-

strate a relentless, unparalleled and continuous devotion to their
community and a willingness to help improve the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Kaplan Family Foundations upon the occasion of their desig-
nation for special recognition by the Center for the Prevention of Child
Abuse on May 7, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Kaplan Family Foundations.
