LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Joseph W. Ceurter, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Walter Ceurter, a life-long resident of Berkshire, New
York, died on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, The son of the late Peter Cisco and Magdalene (Klossner)
Ceurter, Joseph W. Ceurter was born on March 28, 1927; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man proudly served his country as a member of
the United States Army from 1949 to 1952; and
WHEREAS, Following the completion of his military service, Joseph W.
Ceurter worked diligently for 30 years as a Rural Route Mail Carrier for
Newark Valley and Berkshire; he also served as the Building Inspector
for Newark Valley, Berkshire and Richford; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Walter Ceurter distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; he was a dedicated member of the Glenn A.
Warner VFW Post 1371 in Owego, and served as a Military Ritual Honor
Guard Team; furthermore, he was an avid hunter and carpenter, known for
his many talents and abilities; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Walter Ceurter's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, includ-
ing charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, Carolyne Virginia (Shrauger) Ceurter
and his brothers George and John, Joseph Walter Ceurter is survived by
his children, Anita (Charles Jr.) Richmond, Clifford "Yogi" (Kathy)
Ceurter, and Ronald Ceurter; his sister, Dorothy Foux; his sisters-in-
law, Kay Ceurter and Ethel Ceurter; and his six grandchildren, Bethann,
Lisa, Jodi, Magdalene, Avery and Leila; as well as several nieces, neph-
ews and cousins; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Joseph Walter Ceurter
leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and
will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joseph W. Ceurter, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Joseph W. Ceurter.
