LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael Plotkin upon the occasion of
being selected as the 2015 New York State Assistant Principal of the
Year
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in their profession
and in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Michael Plot-
kin upon the occasion of being selected as the 2015 New York State
Assistant Principal of the Year by the School Administrators Association
of New York State and National Association of Elementary School Princi-
pals (NAESP) to be celebrated at an Awards Ceremony on May 8, 2015, at
the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, As Assistant Principal of the Year, Michael Plotkin will be
recognized as a National Outstanding Assistant Principal by NAESP at a
ceremony sponsored by NAESP and VOYA Financial in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Michael Plotkin earned both a Bachelor's degree and a
Master's degree in history from the City University of New York at
Brooklyn College; and
WHEREAS, Michael Plotkin also earned Advanced Certification in School
Leadership from the Teachers College of Columbia University; and
WHEREAS, Michael Plotkin began his distinguished career in education
in 1993; he has served as Assistant Principal of the Pierre Van Cort-
landt Middle School in the Croton-Harmon Union Free School District
since 2007; and
WHEREAS, As Assistant Principal, he has exhibited an impressive and
valuable understanding of the students' need for belonging and emotional
closeness with peers and the adults around them; and
WHEREAS, Known and respected for his compassion and leadership, Micha-
el Plotkin implemented the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, Positive
Behavior Intervention Supports, and a middle school advisory program,
for which he wrote the curriculum; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable educator has exhibited the true spirit of the
prestigious Assistant Principal of the Year Award through his tireless
dedication to providing a quality education and a safe, welcoming envi-
ronment for his students; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael Plotkin upon the occasion of being selected as the 2015
New York State Assistant Principal of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Plotkin.
