LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Lee A. McElroy upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition at the Chef's Table on November
21, 2014
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Lee A. McElroy upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion on Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Chef's Table at Cafe Capric-
cio, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Lee A. McElroy earned his bachelor's degree in Political
Science and History from UCLA in 1970, and later received a master's
degree from the University of Southern California and a doctorate in
Education from the University of Houston; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man has more than 30 years of experience in
athletic and educational administration; he lead the University at
Albany's intercollegiate athletic program from 2000 until his retirement
in 2014; in addition, he has served as the University at Albany's Vice
President for Athletic Administration and Director of Intercollegiate
Athletics; and
WHEREAS, Lee A. McElroy served as President of the America East
Conference Executive Committee, and gained national prominence for his
roles with numerous professional organizations and NCAA committees; and
WHEREAS, Lee A. McElroy also served a three-year term on the Division
I Management Council as one of four at-large representatives from I-AA
or I-AAA conferences; in 2010, he was selected to be a member of the
Minority Opportunities Athletic Association Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, In 2006, Lee A. McElroy was elected to serve as president of
the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Lee A. McElroy has testified before congression-
al committees on such issues in college athletics as gender equity, the
welfare of the minority student-athlete, and the academic/athletic
balance; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Lee A. McElroy upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Chef's Table; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lee A. McElroy.
