LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gerard Vilbig for his distinguished
service to Queens County by Little Neck-Douglaston American Legion Post
No. 103 on May 25, 2015

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gerard Vilbig
for his distinguished service to Queens County by Little Neck-Douglaston
American Legion Post No. 103 on Monday, May 25, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Gerard Vilbig is a vital member of Little Neck-Douglaston
American Legion Post No. 103 where he serves as both Vice Commander and
Membership Director; he is also a member of the Memorial Day Parade
Committee; and
WHEREAS, A veteran of the Korean War, Gerard Vilbig joined the United
States Marine Corps in 1951, at the age of 17; and
WHEREAS, For his courageous service to his country, Gerard Vilbig was
awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Valor, Combat Action Ribbon,
Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense
Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal; he was discharged with the
esteemed rank of Corporal; and
WHEREAS, A proud supporter of veterans causes, Gerard Vilbig was
presented with the Community Service Award by the Little Neck-Douglaston
Memorial Day Parade Association; he also serves as a member of the 1st
Marine Division Association of Long Island; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Gerard Vilbig contributes his time and energies
as a member of the Udallis Cove Preservation Society Board of Directors;
and
WHEREAS, A tremendous asset to Little Neck-Douglaston American Legion
Post No. 103, Gerard Vilbig has served the organization with loyalty,
honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Gerard Vilbig has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gerard Vilbig for his distinguished service to Queens County by
Little Neck-Douglaston American Legion Post No. 103; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gerard Vilbig.
