LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lena Episalla upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Orange County Interscholastic
Athletic Association as a 2015 Senior Scholar

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its young
citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lena Episalla
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as a 2015 Senior
Scholar; and
WHEREAS, Academically and athletically, Lena Episalla has distin-
guished herself as a young woman of superlative ability, talent, and
maturity, establishing standards of excellence and achievement, purpose-
fulness of life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful years;
and
WHEREAS, Lena Episalla a student at Monticello High School in Monti-
cello, New York, ranked 1st in her class with a 103.8 GPA; she played
volleyball and basketball, and was a member of the golf team; and
WHEREAS, The valedictorian of her class, Lena Episalla was a member of
the Columbia University Science Honors Program, and National Honor Soci-
ety; in addition, she was a Scholastic Art and Writing Awards National
Gold Medalist, and earned an internship at New York Medical College; she
plans to attend Harvard University and major in biochemistry; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her classmates, Lena Episalla
has brought honor to her family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, Lena Episalla may stand with pride in her achievements, expe-
riencing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her accomplish-
ments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as she continues
her education; and
WHEREAS, Lena Episalla represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
this young woman, recognizing her achievements and the promise of her
future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lena Episalla upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as
a 2015 Senior Scholar, and to wish her well in her future endeavors; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lena Episalla.
