LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Frederic McCurdy posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by Mount Saint Mary
College on June 1, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Frederic McCurdy posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Mount Saint Mary College, to be celebrated at its
37th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament and 4th Annual Invitational
Tennis Tournament on Monday, June 1, 2015, at The Powelton Club,
Newburgh, New York; and
WHEREAS, Frederic McCurdy has been selected as this year's Golf Hono-
ree in recognition of his steadfast and unwavering commitment to Mount
Saint Mary College and the community-at-large; and
WHEREAS, Born in Abington, Pennsylvania on January 23, 1933, Frederic
McCurdy was the youngest son of Robert McCurdy and Ruth Whitaker; and
WHEREAS, Frederic McCurdy graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering
from Tufts College where he met his wife, Elizabeth Griffiths (Betsy);
he and his young family moved to Newburgh in 1957, following a stint as
a Navigator in the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, Frederic McCurdy founded GTI Graphic Technology,
Inc., a manufacturing business located in Newburgh, which today has 33
employees and ships products for quality color viewing all over the
world; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community he so ably served, Frederic
McCurdy was President of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, a board member
of the Newburgh YMCA, a trustee of Mount Saint Mary College, a board
member of the Holden Home, a Newburgh Rotarian, and a founding member of
the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra; and
WHEREAS, Frederic McCurdy's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout were his wife, Betsy, and their four
children, Rick, Bill (Mary), Bob (Ginny) and Nancy (Jean Pierre), as
well as 13 grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to have been a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Frederic McCurdy leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Frederic McCurdy posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by Mount Saint Mary College on June 1, 2015; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Frederic McCurdy.
