LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of The United
Methodist Church of Floral Park on May 31, 2015
WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and Nation to pay tribute
to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to the
ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 125th Anniversary of The United Methodist Church of Floral
Park to be celebrated at a luncheon on Sunday, May 31, 2015, in Floral
Park, New York; and
WHEREAS, A vital part of the Floral Park community since 1890, The
United Methodist Church of Floral Park was the first church to be found-
ed in its area; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, The United Methodist Church of Floral
Park has remained steadfast in its commitment to providing a comforta-
ble, welcoming environment for its members; and
WHEREAS, Today, this family-oriented church continues to embody the
traditions of its founders as it strives to grow spiritually; the organ-
ization also continues to be a proud supporter of the United Methodist
policy of Open doors, Open minds, Open hearts; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous guidance of Pastor Gainus Sikes, The
United Methodist Church of Floral Park stands on the threshold of tomor-
row, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while retain-
ing that spiritual resolve which characterizes its distinguished past;
and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
proudly commemorate the 125th Anniversary of The United Methodist Church
of Floral Park on May 31, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Pastor Gainus Sikes, The United Methodist Church of Floral
Park.
