LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Corky and Elaine Levine upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the Outstanding Service Award
by the Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are as asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Corky and Elaine Levine have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Corky and
Elaine Levine upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the Outstanding Service Award by the Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center
to be celebrated as its Community Gala, on Sunday, May 17, 2015; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious honor is bestowed upon individuals who truly
dedicate their lives to supporting the Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish
Center and the entire Oceanside community; and
WHEREAS, The Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center is a hub of Jewish
activity in Oceanside, New York; its members come to worship, to sing,
to learn, and to celebrate, all in a warm, caring environment with a
family touch; and
WHEREAS, In 1971 Corky and Elaine Levine were married at the Beth
Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center; two years later, they moved to Ocean-
side, and started a family; it was at this time they became members of
the Center; and
WHEREAS, Corky and Elaine Levine have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Corky Levine served as President of the Men's Club and subse-
quently, was recognized as Man of the Year; Elaine Levine held the posi-
tion of President of the Sisterhood, and was the recipient of the Woman
of Valor Award; and
WHEREAS, Both Corky and Elaine have served as members of the Board of
Directors, a position he still holds today; they have also worked on
many committees and temple events, including Sisterhood Bazaar, Men's
Club Goods and Services Auction, as well as countless Generation Week-
ends and New Year's Eve celebrations; and
WHEREAS, Elaine Levine worked in the Hebrew School for a number of
years, creating an innovative Kindergarten program called Parparim; in
addition, she led High Holiday services for children; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Corky and Elaine Levine have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Both Corky and Elaine Levine were committed educators for the
New York City Department of Education; Elaine taught elementary school,
and Corky served as a Supervisor of Special Education; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Corky and Elaine Levine worked together at Camp
Echo; currently, Corky mentors and inspires new teachers; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their two sons, Andrew (Sara)
and Steven (Alana), and their four grandchildren, Sam, Emily, Hannah and
Noah, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of their life and rejoice
in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Corky and Elaine Levine have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Corky and Elaine Levine upon the occasion of their designation as

recipients of the Outstanding Service Award by the Beth Shalom/Oceanside
Jewish Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Corky and Elaine Levine.
