LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ronnie Coffey upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2015 Written Word Award by the Friends
of the Highland Falls Library on June 6, 2015
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Ronnie Coffey upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2015 Written Word Award by the Friends of the Highland Falls Library, to
be celebrated at its Spring Gala and Awards Reception, on Saturday, June
6, 2015, at the Highland Falls Library, Highland Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Written Word Award recognizes the exceptional talent and
achievement of an author residing in the Highland Falls community; and
WHEREAS, Ronnie Coffey is a hometown author who has compiled an
impressive collection of books illustrating the history of the Town of
Highlands, the Village of Highland Falls, Constitution Island, and Park-
lands such as Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain; in addition, she
and her sister wrote a play for the 125th Anniversary of Highland Falls;
and
WHEREAS, Originally from Paramus, New Jersey, Ronnie Coffey has been a
resident of Highland Falls for 30 years; she graduated from Ladycliff
College, Highland Falls, and earned her master's degree from New York
University, New York City; and
WHEREAS, Ronnie Coffey has served as an educator for over three
decades; currently, she teaches both English and Drama at West Point
Middle School, West Point, New York; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Ronnie Coffey held the position of
Executive Director of the Constitution Island Association from
1993-1999, and has been a Trustee of the Highland Falls Library for
almost 20 years; she is also a member of both the Town of Highlands
Historical Society and the Fort Montgomery Battle Site Association; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ronnie Coffey upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2015 Written Word Award by the Friends of the Highland Falls Library
on June 6, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ronnie Coffey.
